Tired of Regular Thursday Nights

Come Down To the Strip

By Micheal Didyoung

It was about 9:30 on a Thursday night and the music was just starting to beat. My first stop of the night was at the Rhythm and Brews. If you have a motorcycle and you want to show it off and hang out with people who have the same interest as you, Thursday night bike night at the Rhythm and Brews is definitely for you. Cooter Brown is a band who knows exactly how to play the rock classics, with a feel good, sound. These guys really know how to get hips moving and people dancing. With good priced drinks and a fun filled atmosphere, and ages ranging from 21 to around 55 this is a fun filled, hip place for the slightly older crowd.
After that I made my way to the strip and my first stop was at the Legacy. A fairly new bar at the strip, and it doesn’t show one bit. The jamming band, The Weathely played, and  these guys really knew how to play jam together. A smooth flowing sound with amazing covers including: The Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews, Tom Petty, just to name a few to show how diversified and fun the music is at the Legacy. This is definitely where the college kids come to hang out, and with a good guy/girl ratio this is a great Thursday night hang out.

Finally, I ended my night with a great band and a classic Tuscaloosa hang out. The Wayne Mills band played at The Booth and wow!  This was the place to be on this Thursday night. Before the show I was lucky enough to talk to the lead singer Wayne about the band and their past present and future. The Wayne’s Mills band have been playing together for nine years and it all started in good ole’ Tuscaloosa. Their present line up have been playing all across the south east for about 2 years and it’s still HOT! They have four cd’s including: Live at Harry’s 1 & 2, Bad Man, and a self-titled album, The Wayne’s Mill Band. Wayne told me they have been working on a new album set to release this fall and it will most likely be called the Wildest Branch. You can check out their tour dates, news, bio, and pictures at www.waynemills
band.com and they also have a myspace site www.myspace.com/waynemillsband. They are, by far, the best country music bands I have herd in a very long time. With catchy lyrics and awesome riffs the Wayne Mills is on their way somewhere special.  On their Myspace site they say they sound like, “The loudest truck in town, Crackin' the first beer with your beer drinkin' buddy's, and a one night stand you can't get out of your head.” You can check out the Wayne Mills Band live in Tuscaloosa August 3 at the Rhythm and Brews, and you can expect an amazing, over the top show.
Well, since you know now there is some thing to do on Thursday nights in Tuscaloosa you have no excuse to say….Tuscaloosa is so boring there is nothing to do until the weekend. With great food, good drink prices, nice southern style girls and guys, and music to rock your socks off, the downtown and strip area is a place to be on Thursday nights.
