Stacie K’s Pick – Jason Mraz – We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things

"We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things," it's just like Jason Mraz to come up with a quirky title for his newest album.  I know this is a bold statement but Jason Mraz IS my favorite solo artist.  I have been following his career for years now and I think he is purely brilliant!  A voice of a god with music that puts me in an untouchable state of mind. His live shows, which I have been to many, are full of energy and plain and simple fun.  His antics are hilarious and he is over all just a great guy, yes I can attest to this since I have had the pleasure of hanging out with him on several occasions. I speak highly of him with hope that you will too see what I do.  Listen to his music and you will see his raw emotions coming through in his lyrics. Honesty is what Jason Mraz will give you.  The first track on his album, "Make It Mine," is maybe my favorite song on the album.  The second track "I'm Yours" you can hear on B101.7...and everytime it comes on I sing along, badly. Jason also teams up with B101.7 artist Colbie Caillat on "Lucky." "Butterfly" and " Live High" are other songs that get me to this place of utopia.  I could go on and on about Jason's newest album but I will let you come to your own judgments on it. This album has almost a beachy, Jack Johnson sound to it. Enjoy and I really hope you love it as much as I do!!!!

Greg Thomas’ Pick – 3 Doors Down– 3 Doors Down

After a couple of years, the boys from Mississippi are back!  The champions of worthy causes such as support for our troops and the victims of Hurricane Katrina, 3 Doors Down return with their much anticipated self titled fourth studio release.  Already the first single “It’s Not My Time” is a huge success with heavy airplay on B101.7.  It’s quickly becoming one of the most successful rock songs of the year.  Call it classic 3 Doors Down, a song that rocks yet melodic pop to get you hooked.  By far, that’s my favorite track.  However, when you first pop the CD in, you’ll be impressed with “Train”.  It crunches, and makes me think Black Crowes on steroids.  Yah, the band is part Southern Rock, part Metal and part Pop Rock.  Train has a Southern Rock influence to it.  Another track to point out is the second cut “Citizen Soldier”, written at the request for a National Guard promotional campaign.  It’s a tribute to our fine men and women serving.   Overall, 3 Doors Down comes through again with what you would expect from them, well crafted songs, stand out vocals, big guitar riffs and raw energy.

Monk’s Pick – Flyleaf – Flyleaf

So I am sitting here, headphones on, checking out Flyleaf, preparing write a review of the thing and realize this isn't the disc I grabbed up last year. Score! This is a DELUXE RE-ISSUE of Flyleaf’s self-titled disc from 2007. I was completely into the last one so the idea of extra acoustic tracks of songs like “Fully Alive” and “I’m So Sick” as well as a DVD with live stuff, hell yeah!

So, to explain more about this band; lead vocalist Lacey Mosley has a voice that’s equal parts chaos and beauty. She can at times, sound like an angel on a rampage… for lack of a better analogy. I don’t think any other band behind her would compliment her anymore than the four guys who do. Flyleaf is a rock band and could maybe fit into a category such as “Female Fronted Equivalents to The Used or Seether”. This is good rock my friends and highly infectious! For $10.17 you get a complete package including music and footage for one of the greatest new bands out today and you get the “Monk Seal of Approval”!
